INTERIM COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PAREGORIC, KAOLIN, AND PECTIN SUSPENSION
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Interim Commercial Item Description which was developed by the Defense Personnel Support Center, Directorate of Medical Material, DPSC-RST, 2800 South 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19101, based upon currently available technical information.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be Paregoric, Kaolin, and Pectin Suspension:
Each 5 ml contains:
Kaolin, USP- 900 mg/5 ml
Paregoric, USP (Equiv. to 2.5 mg of opium)- 0.6 ml
Pectin, USP- 27 mg/ 5 ml
Each Fl. oz contains:
Kaolin, USP- 5.5 gram per 1 fl.oz
Paregoric, USP (Equiv. to 15 mg of opium)- 3.5 ml per 1 fl.oz
Pectin, USP- 162 mg per 1 fl.oz
All ingredients in the suspension shall be of pharmaceutical grade.
Workmanship. The suspension shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Bottle (BT).
Shall be supplied 4 fl.oz (118 ml), in a commercially available bottle with child-resistant safety closure (minimum height of 51 mm base to shoulder). One bottle, as specified, constitutes one unit.
