COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
OATMEAL, COLLOIDAL CONCENTRATE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be Oatmeal, Colloidal Concentrate.
Shall be a fine, dried powder consisting of a specially milled, colloidal gum-like fraction of dehulled oat.
Shall be a pure oat product free of all extraneous matter and prepared employing a method which will retard insect infestation and minimize bacterial contamination.
Shall produce a colloidal dispersion which is uniform and free of aggregates and foreign material when tested as follows:
Add 25 grams of product to 500 ml of tap water at 45oC ± 2oC. Stir with a magnetic stirring bar until a uniform mixture is obtained. Test for abrasive material by rubbing a small amount of the mixture on the wrist. There shall be no foreign material present. Allow the colloidal dispersion to stand undisturbed for 15 minutes. Examine the settled mixture to determine if it is uniform, free of aggregates and foreign material. There shall be no lumps or foreign matter.
Workmanship. Product shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
