COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DEXTRAN 40 AND SODIUM CHLORIDE INJECTION
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be Dextran 40 and Sodium Chloride Injection containing the following:

Shall be supplied 500 ml in a commercially available flexible plastic container with the following Essential Characteristics:
The outlet port shall be force-fitted with sterility protector with a tab for ease of removal for use and shall accept and retain the piercing device of the stocklisted IV administration sets. The outlet port shall be of such design as to hold and make a proper leak-proof fit with the IV administration set.
The opposite end of the plastic container shall have a heavy gauge plastic hanger strap which is an integral part of the body of the container and shall have a slot in the center of the hanger strap.
The integral hanger shall be of sufficient strength to bear the weight of filled container with the attached IV administration set.
The plastic container shall be supplied in an overpouch which shall serve as a water vapor barrier.
