COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DEXTROSE INJECTION, USP
(Large Volume Injection for Single Dose Infusion)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-D-37457 which is cancelled.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be Dextrose Injection, USP.
Shall be in accordance with the requirements of the USP.
All ingredients shall be of a pharmaceutical grade.
For Strength 1, shall contain 5 percent Dextrose within the applicable assay limits for the injection.
For Strength 2, shall contain 10 percent Dextrose within the applicable assay limits for the injection.
Type 1 – Shall be a single dose, transparent plastic bag having two permanently attached outlet ports. One outlet port shall have a rubber latex sleeve attached or natural rubber stopper and shall be suitable for an injection site. The other port shall be force fitted with a suitable sterility protector and shall accept and retain the piercing device of the stocklisted IV administration sets listed in notes section. The outlet port shall be of such design as to hold and make a proper leak-proof fit with the IV administration set.
The plastic bag shall be designed to facilitate hanging the bag in ports upward upward position during addition of medication through the injection site.
The opposite end of the plastic bag shall have a heavy gauge plastic hanger strap which is an integral part of the body of the container and shall have a slot in the center of the hanger strap.
