COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PSYLLIUM HYDROPHILIC MUCILLOID WITH DEXTROSE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description describes a Psyllium Hydrophilic Mucilloid with Dextrose.
Salient characteristics. Psyllium Hydrophilic Mucilloid with Dextrose shall be a uniform, powdered mixture containing approximately equal parts of the mucilaginous portion (outer epidermis) of Blond Psyllium Seeds (Plantago Ovataforsk) and of Powdered Dextrose, USP, and may contain other suitable ingredients including a suitable flavoring agent.
End item shall swell to between 25 an 35 ml when subjected to the swelling test specified below:
Swelling test for end item. Two (2) one-gram samples of the end item shall be tested as follows for swelling: Add a one (1.0) gram sample of the finished preparation to 100 ml of water in a 250 ml glass stoppered graduated cylinder. Shake for 5 minutes and then allow the sample to stand at room temperature for 24 hours with occasional shaking. The material shall then be allowed to settle undisturbed for an additional 12 hours. Readings shall then be taken at the top of the gel in determining the level of swelling. The average of the two samples shall be reported as the result.
All ingredients shall be of a pharmaceutical grade.
Workmanship. The product shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Can (CN). One can containing 397 grams to 454 grams, as specified, constitutes one unit.
