INTERIM COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SODIUM CHLORIDE INJECTION, USP, PARTIAL-FILL
BAGS WITH VIAL ADDITIVE PORT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Interim Commercial Item Description which was developed by the Defense Personnel Support Center, Directorate of Medical Materiel, DPSC-RST, 2800 South 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19101, based upon currently available technical information.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be Sodium Chloride Injection, USP, 0.9%.
All ingredients shall be of pharmaceutical grade.
The solution shall be supplied in an oversized single dose, sterile, transparent, flexible plastic bag having one permanently attached outlet port for administration and one permanently attached inlet port for interlocking a complementary glass small volume parenternal drug vial.
The outlet port shall be force-fitted with a sterility protector with a tab for ease of removal and shall accept and retain the piercing device of the stocklisted administration sets. The outlet port shall be of such design as to hold and make a leak-proof fit with the IV administration set. The inlet port shall have a hermetically sealed sterility protector with a ring for ease of use. The Inlet port shall be of such design as to facilitate addition of active drugs to the diluent container, and shall accept and make a proper tamper-resistant leak-proof fit, with the complementary glass small volume parenternal drug vials. The combined unit shall be of such design as to prevent the mixing of the two components until just prior to administration.
