COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MINERAL OIL, LANOLATED, WATER DISPERSIBLE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description describes Mineral Oil, Lanolated, Water Dispersible.
Salient characteristics. Shall be clear, oily liquid containing not less than 90 percent light mineral oil, and, in addition, shall contain a fat soluble dewaxed fraction of USP Lanolin in a liquid form, Polyethylene glycol 200 dilaurate, and a suitable perfume. May contain a suitable coloring agent and color stabilizer. Shall assay to contain not less than 90 percent light mineral oil when assayed by a suitable, accurate and reproducible method. The finished preparation shall be not less than 0.868 kg per liter and not more than 0.881 kg per liter at 25OC, when determined by means of Westphal Balance, pycnometer, or other suitable method giving comparable results. Shall have an apparent surface tension of 33.0 to 33.7 dynes per cm, when determined at 21OC to 23OC, using a semiautomatic Fisher Surface Tensiomat, or by another suitable method giving comparable results. Shall have a refractive index of 1.4752 or minus 0.0020 when determined at 20OC, using a Bausch and Lomb Abbe-3L Refractometer, or equivalent instrument giving comparable results. The results shall be corrected for temperature, as follows:
Above 20OC – Add – 0.00036 per degree
Above 20OC – Subtract 0.00036 per degree
All ingredients shall be of a pharmaceutical grade.
Workmanship. The suppositories shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
